Course Overview
Note: This course material has previously been trained as part of the 6-hour Self-Harm in Children and Teens course.
This 3-hour online interactive course is written for social workers, psychologists, and other clinicians who are assessing the needs of children with significant safety concerns in the areas of self-harm to include SIB (self- injurious behavior), eating disorders (anorexia and bulimia), and NSSI (Non-Suicidal Self Injury). We will review the characteristics, and behavioral indicators of these along with their accompanying predictors and diagnosis in this intermediate level course. Current research on best practice for treatment will be reviewed. The research-based concept of Self-Compassion will be introduced as a useful tool in working with these families. This will be an interactive online session with an opportunity for questions.
Participants will be able to:
Define Non-Suicidal Self Injury including disordered eating.
Identify self- injurious behavior as seen in individuals with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities.
Describe the core ideas in Self-Compassion
Equip themselves with resources to support the clinical needs of their clients.
