Ms. Severs is a consultant for the North America Resource Center for Child Welfare (NARCCW), providing training, preparing trainers, and coordinating implementation of child welfare curricula throughout the United States, Canada and in Eastern Europe. She has coordinated training for the nation's first statewide comprehensive competency-based training (CCBIT) system for public assistance staff; and co-developed competencies and the 12-day Core Training Curriculum for Public Assistance Workers.
As a training manager for the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program (OCWTP), Ms. Severs develops resources and reviews impact of child welfare policies for program development. She is primary or co-author of numerous competency-based training curricula including Caseworker Core modules and post-adoption workshops.
Ms. Severs came to the Institute for Human Services (IHS) in 2004, bringing over 40 years of experience in child welfare casework, training and consultation. Prior to joining IHS, Ms. Severs presented over 500 child welfare workshops throughout the United States and Canada to child welfare staff and caregiver families. Earlier in her career, as a policy developer for the Ohio Department of Human Services, Ms. Severs developed administrative code rules and presentations for Legislative Review, and coordinated training for Ohio’s first statewide adoption program.
Ms. Severs holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowling Green University.
